Cardiff Metropolitan University is now actively recruiting for students to study on our suite of innovative and exciting professional youth and community work courses.

We are currently recruiting to all our Youth and Community work courses and have the following programmes on offer:

  1. The Foundation Certificate in Youth & Community Work (incorporating the EWC recognised Youth Support Worker and preparation for study at university).  Upon successful completion of this 1 year course there is planned progression onto the degree (BA) programme. Here.

 The Foundation Certificate Youth & Community Work course can be studied full-time (2-3 days per week plus placement*)

  1. The BA (Hons) Youth & Community Work (professionally endorsed by ETS Wales for Youth Work and giving EWC Professional Youth Worker status – the full nationally recognised professional qualification).

  1. Masters level study

We offer a suite of professionally focused postgraduate degrees in Youth and Community Work aimed at both Youth and Community Work practitioners working in the field, wanting to secure an Education Training Standards Cymru/Wales (ETS) professionally endorsed JNC qualification in youth and community work or graduates of Youth and Community Work who hold a JNC professionally endorsed qualification.

  • MA in Youth and Community Work (with JNC professional endorsement)
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Youth and Community Work (with JNC professional endorsement) (exit award from the MA in Youth and Community Work)
    MA in Advanced Youth and Community Practice
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Leadership and Management of Youth Work (exit award from MA in Advanced Youth and Community Practice

The MA in Youth and Community Work has a professionally endorsed Post Graduate Diploma in Youth and Community work embedded within it and is particularly suited to graduates who have found themselves working in youth and community work and who wish to gain a professional qualification in the field.The course offers students the opportunity to gain a full academic MA as well as a professional qualification in youth and community work. The programme requires students to undertake two separate professionally supervised placements in the field of youth and community work and it is possible to study the programme on either a part time or a full-time basis, attending the university to undertake the taught modules and guided practice tutorials.

The MA in Advanced Youth and Community Practice is suitable for graduates within the field of youth and community work who hold a JNC professionally endorsed qualification in youth and community work. It is also suitable for those from associated professional disciplines who wish to study youth and community work at an advanced level, for the purpose of their professional learning and development. It aims to equip graduates with the knowledge and understanding to equip them to respond effectively to the challenges and opportunities of the evolving fields of practice involving young people and communities. It will support progression into managerial positions in youth and community work.

It is worth noting that if you are employed in a post working with young people or a community you may be able to use this experience as your placement and many employers also support the day release of employees to study on professionally endorsed courses such as these.
